GAS PLANT CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ENGINEER SAYS 'THIS PROCESS IS JUST COOL'
Experts from around the region are coming together to finalize plans for a $10 million gas plant project being constructed by Nobel Environmental at Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill.
Once completed, the project will improve greenhouse emissions by collecting landfill gas and converting it into valuable natural gas that can be used to power vehicles.
Aerospace Engineer and Noble Environmental consultant Charlie Anderson said, “Every molecule of methane that is recovered from landfill gas can be injected into pipelines as natural gas. It is an absolute win for everybody.” Anderson continued, “That’s why I tell everyone that this process is just cool!”

Consent Order Provides Twelve Month Window for Environmental Investment
Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill is pleased with a consent order signed by all parties in Fayette County Court in late August. It provides a twelve month window to execute on productive discussions with the DEP for the most environmentally friendly long-term solution regarding leachate quality.
Fayette County District Attorney Richard Bower and Washington County District Attorney Eugene Vittone both agreed to the new consent order. They raised concerns about the impact of leachate on the Monongahela River after the Belle Vernon Municipal Authority announced that its aging infrastructure could no longer manage new quality thresholds proposed by the EPA. Since then, leachate has been collected and hauled offsite for treatment.
Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill is an industry leader in environmental protection. In the next year, we will be investing substantial capital in equipment and technology to build an onsite leachate pretreatment facility.
Components including advanced filtration and an evaporator will be part of that investment.
Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill recognizes the importance of being on the cutting edge of environmental safety, because this is our backyard, too. Nearly all of our employees and contractors live and work in this community.
WSL supports higher EPA standards for water quality and is committed to being part of the solution.

Joe Holchin of JJ&L Electrical Construction in Uniontown always has “Digger” by his side on the job at Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill.
Purchasing the Pitbull puppy was his 6-year-old daughter’s idea after their family dog developed congestive heart failure. Not only did he get a puppy, he got his daughter one, too! Digger comes to work with Dad, but Lincoln stays with the family during the work week.
Holchin has been instrumental in the $10 million gas plant project at Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill. And now, so has Digger.
